Backend & Systems Architect

Nicaragua to Portugal. From full-spectrum engineering to specialized systems architecture. I build the resilient backends powering fintech, insurance, and high-scale distributed platforms.

Engineering Pillars

01

Fintech & Insurance Evolution

Entering insurance as a non-expert and architecting systems that bridge the gap between legacy industry logic and modern SaaS. Translating complex domain requirements into clean, maintainable backend services.

Integration at Scale

10+ years connecting complex APIs—Stripe, Adyen, SIBS—and high-concurrency event streams to robust backends. Managing real-time state across thousands of distributed nodes using MQTT and ZMQ, with a focus on building resilience in unstable network environments.

Architectural Trade-offs

Architecture is the art of choosing what not to use. Dedicated message brokers for mission-critical persistence; lightweight tools for transient, high-speed tasks. Every decision justified by the failure mode it prevents.

Beyond Code

Impact

Mentorship & Leadership

Onboarding junior developers into complex codebases. Setting up engineering environments that reduce friction and accelerate productivity from day one.

Leading technical workshops on Python and distributed systems—turning hackathons into learning experiences where engineers build confidence alongside working prototypes.

Engineering leadership is not about writing the most code. It's about creating the conditions where others can do their best work.

Frameworks & Tooling

Core contributor to Envoxy, a Python framework built to solve microservice communication challenges. Architected components for uWSGI and message broker integration to simplify the development lifecycle for engineering teams.

Maintained a high-performance Python SDK for real-time data synchronization, bridging the gap between hardware protocols and cloud-scale applications.

The best frameworks disappear—they solve the problem so completely that engineers forget the complexity was ever there.

The Person

Philosophy

"A pragmatist by experience, an architect by design."

Technical Growth

The journey started as a Fullstack/Sysadmin generalist in a small team—wearing every hat, solving every problem, building the instinct to understand systems end-to-end.

That generalist foundation became the launchpad for specialization. Moving to Lisbon meant moving deeper: from "make it work" to "make it right." From reactive firefighting to deliberate backend architecture.

Today, the focus is building software that is as stable as it is scalable. Not chasing the newest framework—choosing the proven tool, designing the resilient system, writing the code that someone else can maintain at 3 a.m.
